Linux Desktop Followup

Even though I've been using Linux as a server operating system for years I did not expect the desktop experience to be so smooth - especially migrating from Windows. But it has been just about seamless.

There are so many configuration options - I haven't even touched the sides. But I'm happy not to configure too many things and just enjoy/learn them as defaults. About the only things I've adjusted are a few hotkeys here and there.

I spent a couple of days trying to build the various Descent II open source games with almost no luck. But then I stumbled across DXX-Redux which (pretty much) just worked. It strips out a bunch of the extra features that people have added in over the years - I'm sure they had good reason but I just want the vanilla experience with higher resolution and that's what I've got now.

If anything, it runs better than the Windows version did - but that's pretty much the theme here.

Overall, super impressed - Linux desktops have come a long way and I won't be going back to Windows.
