And our politicians in Australia aren't any better.

The closing line of the article: "These modern ignoramuses are doing worse than merely fiddling while Rome burns—they are staring at the flames, and arguing that it is not hot."

Which is good, because our government and opposition think it is a good idea.

Let's be clear: retention of metadata is just about as good as the retention of the data itself. You can glean a massive amount of intelligence and information from metadata. It should not be kept except where required by court-ordered warrant or other legal instrument.

I've said it before: The best thing the Coalition can do is belt Labor a bit by talking up how the NBN was badly managed under their (Labor's) rule; but then man up and admit it is a good idea and just get it done. That would be real political leadership.

I totally agree. While it is fair to blame your predecessor for their faults their comes a time when you must do your job. That's what the Abbott government isn't doing right now - especially with the royally screwed ex-NBN project.

Well, not really. While there is a lot of good that has come out of the USA there are also a lot of bad things that have been done in the name of democracy.

This article looks at the first 100 days of the Abbott government. Whatever your political leanings and regardless of that you thought of the last government it is depressing. And as I write this, we have the implosion of the NBN project, negligence towards overseas aid and the obscene way we are dealing with asylum seekers.
